The masthead of this page is the ‘contents’ which is the biggest text on the page.  Aswell as being on a white background contrasting to the rest of the page which makes it clear what it is. As it is blue writing against a black background it makes the writing stand out to the reader and this will let them know that this is the page that is going to tell them where everything is.

The contents page has been split into two parts showing images on one side and text on the other. Before telling you what page number a certain article is there are subheadings explaining what each secton will consist of. The images at the side also have numbers on them which relates to the articles in side and also makes it easier for the reader to find the page also if they are looking for one of them exact articles .

There are three main images and if you look at the image and then the corrosponing page number you will be able to tell what the article is going to be about for instance the first image shows a man sitting in a chair which looks to be on a stage with a pen and book in his had and the title on the contents side says ‘fansa meets lord nash tom clarke’ so you are able to tell that this article will be about an interview or a meeting of some sort.

Also underneath the contents page it had the issue number and when this magazine was realeased this is good for first time readers of this magazine as even though it is on the front cover they may not have noticed it but they will when they are reading the contents page. This will let them know what there are more of these magazines and if they find that they like the magazine they can go and purchase older or more recent magazines.

The academy magazine

I think that it is called the academy magazine as it is making reference to a particular school. The most significant words are ‘learning for fife’ which is a good way for people to buy this magazine as they would want to know more about how they can learn. On the front cover of this magazine it does not say who publishes this magazine. This magazine is published every couple of months and this particular one is from spring 2014. This magazine does not have any other media interests. This magazine is £5.99 and can only be bought on the internet.

The type of audience this magazine is targeting at would be teenagers at high school or going into university as there are two young boys on the front cover in a science lab. There is an image on the front cover of two boys who are in a workshop and they look happy to be there and happy to be learning. This would make a reader want to buy it because they could be interested in the same subject they are doing. On the bottom of the front cover it also says ‘free schools’ which would attract reader because they may not want to go to a school or university if they have to pay a lot of money to go.  The magazine addresses its readers by telling them that they are able to learn for life and this would want them to read on and see how they can. The cover looks a little similar to other magazines because there are many different issues of this magazine although there is a different picture for every magazine they layout and colours are still the same. I think the magazines presentation is a bit dull as the colours are not that right but also I think it looks smart as it is a school magazine which means it needs to smart if people are going to buy it. This magazine looks a little cheap and also looks like it has been done on Photoshop quickly.

This magazine features articles about how you can find or get into free schools if you don’t want to spend money on a school. It also has an article about what is going on in different subjects. You find out in this magazine how you can keep learning. There are no advertisements on the front cover of this magazine but there may be some on the inside. There are no women in this magazine but the men are represented to be happy in what they are doing. Also they look like they are doing technology or science so maybe they are trying to say that it is a subject for boys. There are no celebrities featured in this magazine as it is a school magazine and they probably want to focus the magazine on just schools. I think this magazine is just made for people who would like to find out more about certain subjects or people who are interested in going to different schools.

The masthead of this school magazine is ‘Mill Hill Magazine’ this was possibly selected as the title to ensure the students and staff that this magazine was about their school and that when they see it around the school they would recognise it. The most significant words in this magazine are ‘The year in review’ because these words are telling you what the magazine will be about.

It does not have the name of the publisher on the front cover. They have other magazines about the school life. The magazine is free as they are just giving it out throughout the school. These magazines are published every year. There is not an actual number but the magazines are given to every pupil at the school and will probably be passed onto their parents. The magazine has a website showing you all of their other magazines that have been published it is called www.millhill.org.uk. The target audience this magazine is trying to get is the pupils from the school and also their parents as there are articles about academic results and there is also articles about different subjects which would benefit the pupils if they would like to find out more about different subjects. The image on this magazine is the crest of the school. The image tells us that it is trying to get school pupils to read this magazine as it is all about their school and nothing else. Most of the writing is in white and this is because the background is green and it really stands out from the green background. The magazine is similar to the other magazines as the layout is the same but there is just a different coloured background.

The presentation of this magazine is very smart looking and it would make me think that the Mill Hill School is a school that achieves a lot. This magazine looks quite expensive although it could be done on Photoshop in school. It addresses the readers by telling them what is going to be in the magazine and also it tells them that the magazine will be reviewing the year. The types of articles this magazine contains are about academic results, various school subjects, partnerships, their common room and sports.  There is no proper representation of men or women on the front cover of this magazine and there are also no advertisements. The reason for this magazine being quite popular is that you can get it at school but you can also read it online which means it costs less for the school and it is easier for pupils to get it if they haven’t been able to get it at school. This magazine offers everything that goes on throughout the school and it also lets you see what is happening outside the school as well.
