Magazine Questionnaire Analysis

Magazine Questionnaire analysis

From my first question I can tell that mostly girls answered my survey as there were 76% of girls and only 24% were boys this means I am able to make my magazine a lot more feminine as I don’t think much boys are really interested in a school magazine although I will include some articles to do with boys as I go to a mixed school.

In my second question 68% of people said that they were in sixth form, 20% of people said they were in key stage 4 and only 12% of people said they were in key stage3 this makes me think that I should do a full page that is only for sixth formers and GCSE students as it would be more beneficial for them.

When I asked what age people were 44% answered 15-16 and a further 44% answered 17-19 which makes me think that the younger pupils of the school are not very interested in the school magazine and maybe they think that the articles in the school magazine are not for them so they just don’t bother to read them.  I know now that I need to make a magazine for 15-19 year olds.

In my next question 44% of people said that they are not interested in the magazine at all which makes me think that I need to make it a lot more exciting and I also need to add a free gift or voucher to entice my reader and make them want to buy the magazine all the time and even show it to their friends or family.

The next question I asked was how often they would want the magazine to be released and 40% of people said that they would rather have a magazine monthly and this shows me that I don’t have to put lots of content in the one magazine as I will be publishing it every month. Also if I publish it every month pupils of the school will be able to catch up and read about anything that they have missed.

I then asked what colours people would want to have in the magazine the two most popular answers were purple, pink, orange and blue, orange and green. As I will have male and female readers I can change the colours about and make it feminine and masculine with the same colours.

When I asked what people said they would like to see included in the magazine 40% of people said free gifts and this lets me know that if I put free gifts or vouchers in my magazine it would entice my readers and they would probably buy the magazine all the time and also the may recommend it to their friends also.

The last question I asked was did the readers want the magazine be in an informal or formal style 68% of people said that they would like it to be both. This lets me know that I could put funnier school articles in an informal style and that I could put the contents page and the more serious articles in a formal style of writing.

Contents page analysis

contents page analysis two

This is the contents page for the ‘Prep School’ magazine. Most magazines include contents pages so it is easier for the reader to navigate through the magazine and also find the pages and article that they would like to read. Also if this was not included I think that people would not buy this magazine because there are too many articles and the readers would not know what articles to read. You can also buy this magazine online and pay a subscription to receive magazines every month and you can download the magazine onto your laptop for free instead of waiting for it to come in the post.

On the contents page there are four images going down the right hand side which illustrates some of the articles as there are pages numbers at the bottom of the images. The images are of children who look happy and they are placed in a school or outdoor environment. when I see these pictures down the side they make me think that they are to do with the main articles as there are only four pictures and the take up at least a quarter of the page. The four main pictures go in order down the page and this would also make the reader want to read on as it is not all over the place.

The layout of this contents page is very formal as everything is in order and the vocabulary and punctuation is all correct. The page has numbers beside all of the articles which is good as it entices the reader to read the article that they want to as it is easy to find.

The title of this page is in bold, big writing which is bigger than the rest of the page. when the reader looks at this page the first thing that will grab their attention is the Word ‘contents’ this will also make the reader want to look down the rest of the page to see what types of articles this magazine offers.

In all of the images the children look happy. In the first image the children look to be in a forest and there is also an image of a teacher speaking to two students and in the last picture there are two girls doing some kind of science project and this is also good for the parents of the pupils as they are able to see most of the events and work that their children take part in.

Lastly I have seen that the three main colours are white, black and red. These colours represent elegance, peace and love which means that the prep school hold think that there school is a great school and you can also see that the school take care of the students and hold them in high regard.
